Rapid Credentials at Broward College Encourage Fast Track Toward Meaningful Employment

Broward College Partners with Florida Department of Education to Promote Workforce Education Initiatives

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (October 19, 2020) – Broward College has launched Rapid Credentials, a program designed to provide a NO COST accelerated path to job opportunities by allowing students to complete in-demand technical certificates and industry certifications that range in duration from one term to one-and-a-half years. The program is ideal for individuals who are looking to re-enter the workforce after being laid off, looking to upskill, or for those who are interested in a change of industry.

“Rapid Credentials can be key to opening the door to a new, rewarding and high-wage job opportunity in any industry,” said Dr. Mildred Coyne, Broward College senior vice president of Workforce Education and Innovation. “In a new partnership with the Florida Department of Education, we will be able to expand access to higher education in Broward County and across the state.”

Rapid Credentials are tuition free to students thanks to a partnership with the Florida Department of Education under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act Fund. Funds are available for two years and to a limited number of students. Students must be Florida residents and must complete the course(s) for which they are registered within the designated timeframe.

Individuals can complete Rapid Credentials through continuing education courses and technical certificates in any of the eight career pathways offered at the College including Arts, Humanities, Communication and Design; Business; Education; Health Sciences; Industry, Manufacturing, Construction and Transportation; Public Safety; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math; and Social Behavioral Sciences and Human Services.

In addition, Broward College has joined forces with the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) for its new workforce education initiative, Get There, aimed at raising awareness of short-term career and technical education programs, like Rapid Credentials. Get There Florida highlights the key benefits of the programs available locally and to all Floridians statewide.

Get There accelerates student success, preparing them for their future and ensuring a talented workforce,” said Kathy Hebda, chancellor of the Florida College System. “With 28 state colleges and 48 technical colleges and centers spanning the state, there is a program for everyone. Whether you’ve recently experienced job loss, graduated high school or are simply looking for a career change or opportunity to stack your credentials into a degree – we want to help you Get There.”

Rapid Credentials at Broward College is part of a wider initiative between the College and the state to promote short-term programming to help people gain new skills rapidly. Learn more about Broward College’s workforce training programs here.
