Nicole Henry Crowns Inaugural Season of “South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall”

International jazz and soul vocal stylist will lead her quintet on June 16

Davie, Fla. (June 1, 2018) – International jazz vocal stylist Nicole Henry will lead her quintet in the culmination of the current "South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall" series on Saturday, June 16 at 8 p.m. "Ron's 15" Jazz Discussion" by South Florida JAZZ President & Artistic Director Ronald B. Weber precedes the show at 7:45 p.m.

Possessing a potent combination of onstage charisma, impeccable phrasing and powerful emotional resonance, she has established herself as one of the jazz world's most acclaimed vocalists. Her repertoire includes the Great American Songbook, classic and contemporary jazz titles, blues and original compositions.

"I cannot imagine a better finale to the inaugural season of 'South Florida JAZZ at Bailey Hall'," said Dr. Dan Barnard, Broward College associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall. "Dr. Weber has brought internationally renowned artists to Bailey Hall this year and now we top it off with a local artist who is herself acclaimed around the world."

Honored with a Soul Train Award for "Best Traditional Jazz Performance," Henry has seen three releases reach the Top 10 U.S. Billboard chart. She has captivated audiences in over 15 countries, headlining at venues in New York, Tokyo, Madrid, Moscow, Paris, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco and Miami, among others. She is wildly popular in Japan, where her debut release, The Nearness of You, led her to be named Best New Jazz Artist of 2004 and HMV Japan honored her next release, Teach Me Tonight, as Best Vocal Jazz Album of 2005. The 2011 release, Embraceable, was a creative triumph for Nicole as it expanded her repertoire beyond the American Songbook and jazz standards that had been her principal focus up to that time.

Henry has also performed in more than 30 music festivals worldwide and in some of the world's most famous venues including the Blue Note, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Washington, DC's Blues Alley, Chicago's iconic Green Mill, the Regattabar in Boston and LA's Catalina Jazz Club.

Her career achievements have been officially recognized by The City of Philadelphia as well as the City of Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County, who awarded proclamations naming "Nicole Henry Day(s)" in 2011 and 2016 respectively.
