Broward College North Campus President Dr. Avis Proctor Named President of Harper College Following Nationwide Search

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Feb. 13, 2019) – Broward College is pleased to congratulate Dr. Avis Proctor, president of the College’s North Campus in Coconut Creek, on being selected as the next president of William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. Dr. Proctor was one of three finalists for the position following an extensive nationwide search.

The Harper College Board of Trustees voted on her appointment earlier this evening. Dr. Proctor, who will officially assume her new role on July 1, 2019, is Harper College’s first female and first African-American president. She succeeds Dr. Kenneth L. Ender, who completes his decade-long term at Harper College on June 30.

Dr. Proctor joined Broward College in 2000 as a mathematics faculty member and subsequently served in various campus and district roles. She served as the associate dean of the North Campus mathematics department, associate vice president for academic affairs, vice president for academic affairs, and campus president. She received her doctoral degree in higher education from Florida International University, her master’s degree in teaching mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and her bachelor’s degree in mathematics education from Florida A&M University.
