Broward College North Campus President Dr. Avis Proctor Named President of Harper College Following Nationwide Search

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Feb. 13, 2019) – Broward College is pleased to congratulate Dr. Avis Proctor, president of the College’s North Campus in Coconut Creek, on being selected as the next president of William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Illinois. Dr. Proctor was one of three finalists for the position following an extensive nationwide search.

The Harper College Board of Trustees voted on her appointment earlier this evening. Dr. Proctor, who will officially assume her new role on July 1, 2019, is Harper College’s first female and first African-American president. She succeeds Dr. Kenneth L. Ender, who completes his decade-long term at Harper College on June 30.

“Dr. Proctor has displayed exceptional dedication to Broward College and a profound commitment to our students throughout her 18 years of service,” said President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq. “Although the Broward College community will miss her, we are excited for her opportunity to positively impact Harper College. I look forward to supporting her continued success as she moves into this important leadership role.”

“For over 18 years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to serve Broward College students, faculty, and staff, and our surrounding communities to meet their academic, professional, and economic development goals,” said Dr. Proctor as she expressed gratitude to colleagues at the College. “I feel honored to join William Rainey Harper College as its next president and look forward to continuing the pursuit of advancing student success through higher education.”

Dr. Proctor joined Broward College in 2000 as a mathematics faculty member and subsequently served in various campus and district roles. She served as the associate dean of the North Campus mathematics department, associate vice president for academic affairs, vice president for academic affairs, and campus president.
