Broward College Celebrates Formal Investiture of President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq., on March 29

President Haile continues to receive endorsements from government and community leaders and will unveil his vision for the College in his inauguration speech

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (March 20, 2019) – The formal investiture of Gregory Adam Haile, Esq., as the seventh president of Broward College takes place on Friday, March 29 at Bailey Hall, located on the College's A. Hugh Adams Central campus in Davie and is open to the community.

“This first year of my presidency has been stirring; the passion and brilliance that our faculty and staff display in their quest to transform the lives of our students is unparalleled," said President Haile. "The willingness of the public and private sector to align with Broward College as we seek to provide high quality and cost-effective apprenticeship, industry certificates, and degree opportunities to the residents of Broward County has been extraordinary. With a workforce future that plainly requires us to increase our volume of residents with workforce certifications and degrees, I am especially enthused by those who have aligned and recognized that if we serve together, we can manifest the unlimited potential of every individual, every city, and every zip code in our community.”

Investiture ceremonies are one of the oldest traditions in academia, with "investiture" originating from the Latin phrase for "dress in robe." It is the formal ceremony conferring the authority and symbols of high office. Originating in English universities and is modeled after highly dignified knighthood services, the Investiture Ceremony is among the oldest traditions in academia in which colleges and universities welcome a new era and celebrate the pursuit of knowledge.

Under the theme 'Together we serve,' the ceremony will include an academic procession with members of the Broward College faculty, and delegates from other colleges and universities, representatives from the higher education community, community partners, and government leaders.

Before his presidential appointment in July 2018, President Haile served as Broward College's general counsel and vice president of public policy and government affairs. A public servant, community leader, and accomplished educator, he has served on more than 35 boards and committees. He has also repeatedly spent time in Cambridge Massachusetts to teach a self-designed 4 credit course entitled Higher Education Law and Policy at Harvard (Summer School).

He received his Juris Doctorate from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, editor-in-chief of the National Black Law Journal and editor of the Journal on Gender and Law. He received his bachelor's degree from Arizona State University, where he graduated magna cum laude.

In addition to the Investiture ceremony, the College is hosting other events. These include a student movie night that took place on February 26 at the Judson A. Samuels South campus in Pembroke Pines and a college-wide barbeque scheduled for March 27 at the College's North campus in Coconut Creek. The barbeque will be open to all students, staff, and faculty as they come together to celebrate this historic milestone in Broward College history.
