Broward College and Magic Leap Partner to Impact Students and Faculty via the World of Spatial Computing

Students and faculty will have access to Magic Leap One, the world's leading spatial computing device

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (May 6, 2019) – Broward College is teaming up with Magic Leap, the leader in spatial computing technology, to launch one of the first spatial computing degree programs in the country. The College will launch courses in spatial computing technology during the 2019 – 2020 academic year.

Through the partnership, Broward College will have access to Magic Leap's spatial computing platform and support from its network of highly skilled professionals. Also, Broward College will establish a Spatial Computing Practice Lab on lab on the A. Hugh Adams Central campus in Davie that will be used by students, faculty, and researchers involved in the revolutionary program.

"Broward College lives at the intersection of workforce and innovation, and this partnership is a model illustration of our focus," said President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq. "This is an incredible opportunity for our students and our community. It's not only an exciting career path, but it will allow us to build on our innovative approach to education as our faculty take immersive learning to new heights."

The partnership includes the opportunity to provide Broward College personnel with experience and industry up-skilling. Also, Broward College and the Magic Leap Education Team will engage Broward UP communities and local high schools throughout the year to provide Magic Leap demonstrations, support hackathons, and highlight Broward College as a key higher education partner offering its students cutting-edge educational opportunities.

"Magic Leap is excited to help Broward College expand its curricula into spatial computing," said SVP of People, Carlos Penzini. "At Magic Leap, we are proud to support and partner with our local community and educational institutions."

Initial participating programs include Technician Training Disciplines (computer science, aviation maintenance, dental hygiene, and marine mechanics), as well as Workforce & Continuing Education, Supply Chain Management, and Nursing. The College will also develop spatial computing training for faculty and staff.

The mission of Broward UP is solving challenges, improving lives, and building partnerships to help every person realize their Unlimited Potential. While Broward County's unemployment rate is approximately 3.5 percent, it soars to more than 10 percent in the areas targeted by Broward UP communities, with some zip codes reaching unemployment levels nearing 15 percent. In response to this disparity, Broward UP has adopted three goals: increase college access and attendance, improve degree and certificate attainment, and holistically raise social and economic mobility.

Serving approximately 56,000 students annually, Broward College provides residents with certificate programs, two-year university-transfer degrees, two-year career degrees, and baccalaureate degrees in selected programs. The mission of the College is to provide high-quality educational programs and services that are affordable and accessible to a diverse community of learners. For more information, visit
