Broward College Unveils Partnership with Virgin Trains USA

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (July 17, 2019) – Broward College has teamed up with Virgin Trains USA, formerly Brightline, to establish a partnership that will connect the world of academia with the world of innovative transportation. Key elements of the partnership include:

  • Appointment of Virgin Trains as Broward College's Official Mass Transit Partner offering discounted train tickets for Broward College students and faculty
  • Internship programs for Broward College students
  • Training and educational programs for Virgin Trains USA employees by Broward College

In addition, Virgin Trains is now the title sponsor of the 2020 Broward College Speaker Series, marking the seventh year of one of the most anticipated lecture series in the region. The Speaker Series features notable speakers who educate, entertain and enlighten the community on a variety of topics. Previous speakers include Steve Forbes, Terry Bradshaw, Dan Rather, Mo Rocca, Ted Koppel, Laila Ali, Ana Navarro, and Thomas Friedman.

"We are always looking for strategic and cutting-edge opportunities that will benefit our students, employees and the wider community," said Broward College President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq. "Our ability to serve is enhanced by partnerships like this one. I look forward to working with Virgin Trains to improve the lives of our residents."

In November 2018, Virgin Group, founded by Sir Richard Branson and one of the world's most recognizable travel and hospitality brands, announced a trademark licensing agreement with Brightline that culminated in the rebranding of the express inter-city rail system to Virgin Trains USA.

"As South Florida continues to grow as a cultural and entrepreneurial hub, education is key to the future of our region," said Chris Maragno, executive vice president of sales and business development for Virgin Trains USA. "Broward College is a world-class institution, and we are honored to partner with the school, including its Speaker Series, connecting our community with renowned thought leaders."

Virgin Trains currently has service through Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach, and is also expecting future train service through Orlando, Tampa and between Las Vegas and Southern California.
