Broward College Introduces Arizona State University Transfer Option for Students

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (August 6, 2019) – Graduates of Broward College now have a unique opportunity to pursue a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University (ASU). Through the agreement, students now have a guaranteed pathway that allows transition into one of the bachelor's degree programs offered at ASU.

The agreement, initiated by ASU alumnus and Broward College President Gregory Adam Haile, Esq., guarantees admission to students who:

  • Earn an Associate of Arts degree with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 2.50, or
  • Have a completed Florida General Education Curriculum with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 2.50 and an official high school transcript or GED, or
  • Have completed at least 24 transferable credits with a minimum cumulative transfer GPA of 3.00, plus either an official high school transcript or GED.

"We strive to provide our students with as many resources and opportunities possible to help them reach their goals," said President Haile. "This is the latest effort to establish new academic paths for students who wish to journey outside of Florida and complete college at one of the nation's top-ranked universities."

ASU has been recognized as the country's most innovative university in America, ranked number one by U.S. News & World Report in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

"ASU is thrilled to be able to partner with Florida's community colleges to enhance college attainment and achievement for Florida's students," said Cheryl Hyman, ASU's vice provost for academic alliances. "ASU's program enhances the transfer process by enabling students to complete prescribed coursework in an efficient manner without any loss of time or credit. We are excited for the first cohort Floridians to join the ASU community."

This is one of the newest agreements that facilitate the guaranteed transition of Broward College students to universities outside Florida to complete a bachelor's degree. Under the statewide articulation agreement between the State Board of Education and the Board of Governors, students who graduate from an institution within the Florida College System with an Associate of Arts degree are guaranteed admission to one of twelve state universities, but not to a specific program of study.

In addition to the statewide articulation agreements, Broward College has special transfer arrangements related to some Associate of Science degrees and for international students. Transfer agreements are in place with the University of Kentucky, Florida Atlantic University, Florida International University, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, St. Thomas University, Ball State University, University of Albany, Wayne State University, Buffalo State University, Marymount University, University of South Florida, and Western Governor's University.

In May, the College also announced an agreement with the University of Gibraltar in Spain. The transfer agreement allows students who complete their associate degrees at Broward College in South Florida or any of its international affiliates to transfer overseas to live and study at the University of Gibraltar as they pursue bachelor's degrees.
