If you live outside the United States but wish to attend Broward College in Florida with an international student visa for your post-secondary education, we are excited to help guide you through the process of becoming a Seahawk. We will be breaking down all you need to know in a three-part series that will cover information on applying, financial assistance, and visa inquiries.
The process is simple but in this quick guide, you will learn all the steps you must take to apply to Broward College.

What is my first step as an International Student when initiating the application process?

Before you even set to begin an application process, prospective students are encouraged to determine if their program of interest admits international students. Due to visa requirements, not all programs are eligible for international students and depending on whether you wish to pursue an A.A, A.S, AAS or certificate the visa required could be an F1 or M1.

I have determined my program of choice; how do I apply?

You can begin your application process online in three easy steps:

• First, you must create a login. You will receive a validation code via email and then you will choose your enrollment intention, term, and campus. You will have the option to choose between an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Bachelor’s degree, or to enroll as non-degree seeking student if your intention is to apply for the Language Training program.
• Complete the address section. You can use an international address.
• Input your immigration information. For immigration status, fill out Non-resident Alien, and for visa type select F1 student visa.

What supporting documents should I submit with my application?

Through the International Student Supplemental Application, you will be attaching the following documents:

• Passport
• Education records (including but not limited to high school diploma, official CXC, BGCSE, scores, copies of official university transcripts with any necessary ATA translation.)
• Immigration documents for F1 transfer students: I-94, copy of F1 visa, and current I-20
• Dependent(s) passports, if your spouse and/or children are coming with you. F-2 documents, only if F1 is transferring to Broward College: I-20, I-94, and F-2 visa.

Through the Financial Affidavit of Support, you will be attaching the following documents:

• Bank statement or letter showing available funds to cover the estimated annual cost of education.
  • Estimated Cost of Attendance per year for associate degree and Language Training program students is $22,500. This includes tuition, lab fees, books, and estimated living expenses.
  • Estimated Cost of Attendance per year for bachelor’s degree seeking students is $27,500. This includes tuition, lab fees, books, and estimated living expenses.
  • Estimated Cost of Attendance per year for the Associate of Science in Professional Pilot Technology degree seeking students is $50,000. This includes tuition, lab fees, books, and estimated costs of flight training and living expenses.
  • All students are required to have health insurance. The estimated annual cost for health insurance is approximately $1,300. Please consider this additional expense.
• English Proficiency for Non-Native speakers (Students from non-English speaking countries must submit a valid TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge or other ELL test score eligible for EAP course placement. Students from English-speaking countries must take the Common Placement Test unless they have valid SAT or ACT scores.)

It’s important to note that original education records will be required upon arrival at Broward College.

I have completed my application, what is my next step?

Using the password you created when completing your online application, you will login to your student account, and create password recovery questions through the student portal, myBC. After reading and completing all the policies, you will get to your myBC portal to pay the one-time $75 application fee.

How long does it take for my application to be reviewed?

Once you have completed your application, submitted all documents and required test scores, and paid the application fee, Broward College will review it within seven to ten business days. During peak times, it may take up to 14 business days. If you are admitted, the College will provide you with an acceptance packet and I-20 immigration document to begin your application for the F1 student visa at the American Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

What are the deadlines to apply?

International students must complete the application process, including supporting documents and testing, before the following dates:

• Fall (August – December): For first-time I-20s from outside the U.S. they must apply by June 15. For transfer I-20 students, deadline is July 15.
• Spring (January – May): For first-time I-20s from outside the U.S. they must apply by October 15. For transfer I-20 students, deadline is November 15.
• Summer (May – August): For first-time I-20s from outside the U.S. they must apply by March 15. For transfer I-20 students, deadline is April 15.
