According to the most recent Census data, Broward County is home to roughly 80,000 veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces. They are part of a vibrant network of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines who bring a wealth of expertise, resilience, and leadership to the community, and whose commitment to self-improvement extends beyond military service and into the classrooms and workplaces of Broward College.

Recently recognized as one of the Best for Vets Colleges in the United States by The Military Times, Broward College has a long history of supporting the men and women who have served in the military—both inside and outside the classroom. The College provides numerous services to student veterans through its holistic Veterans Services Program, overseeing the administration of tuition assistance, fee waivers, financial aid, and other education and workforce benefits for veterans, active-duty service members, reservists, and military dependents.

Broward College understands that veterans face unique challenges in pursuing their higher education. That's why the College remains committed to providing resources like counseling and academic assistance to help these students overcome obstacles and successfully earn their degrees. We are especially proud to share that 29 student veterans will be among the thousands of graduates earning degrees during the Fall 2023 Commencement ceremony, which will be held on Thursday, December 14, at the Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida.

Broward College is also proud to count numerous veterans among its faculty, staff, and administration. In fact, veterans of all U.S. military services can be found in Broward College's workforce, from professors and lecturers to administrators and technical support staff. This includes the College’s most senior academic leader, Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Jeffrey Nasse, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps. As a former servicemember, he understands firsthand how veterans can help enrich the College’s workplace culture.

“Veterans bring such a dynamic range of experiences, qualities, and skills to our organization,” said Dr. Nasse. “Leadership, discipline, and a tremendous work ethic characterize their work as students, faculty, and staff. In my experience, military service is built on an exceptional commitment to service and teamwork, which embodies the values we strive to achieve every day for our Broward College community. I am truly honored to be a part of this remarkable group of people.”
