This year, the College reaffirmed its commitment to student success through grants, technological initiatives, strategic partnerships, and collaborative efforts.

In September, the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded Broward College a $2,999,996.77 grant as part of its Connecting Broward UP Communities Pilot Program. The funding expanded community technology hubs, upgraded classroom technology, and increased digital literacy skills.

On September 7, 203, Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick presented a check representing the grant to Broward College at a town hall event celebrating the one-year anniversary of the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act, which was enacted to enhance STEM opportunities for minorities.

Earlier in the year, Broward College took a proactive role in spearheading the Broward UP Communities Project, a multifaceted initiative aimed at bridging the digital divide and enhancing technological accessibility within Broward County. The project identifies areas lacking broadband internet services, developing user-friendly platforms to disseminate information, and establishing a College-based Tech Squad to implement expansive broadband networking. This initiative not only addresses technological disparities but also provides essential technology equipment and offers digital training and workforce education programs to empower residents.
