Question and Answer session with
Dean of Student Services, Dr. David H. Kenton

David Kenton

As a leader, what qualities do you most hope to model for your colleagues and Broward College students? Integrity and ethical behavior, discipline, consistency, professionalism, and having fun while working!

In 2023, you made South Florida Business Journal’s “40 Under 40” list. Looking forward to the next decade of your career, what do you most hope to accomplish? My hope is expanded growth as a leader, to elevate to executive-level leadership, and to make a tremendous impact on student success in higher education. My hope is that I have created a work environment where my colleagues feel empowered, valued, and feel invigorated for their love of students.

You’ve recently been re-appointed chair of Children’s Services Council of Broward County. What about their mission resonates with you, and why is community involvement outside of work important? The Children’s Services Council of Broward County’s mission of supporting children and families resonates with me because my children and family mean a lot to me and give me purpose to show up and give my best effort every day. I remember how much members of my community poured into me and helped me to develop into the person I am today. I have been privileged to live in other places. However, Broward County is special and investing in my children and those in my community are good ways to pay it forward as an investment for where we need to be headed in the future.

February is Black History Month. Is there a leader from the African American community who has had a powerful impact on your life and/or career? My wife, Sakeena! We have been together since high school, and I have been fortunate enough to watch her blossom in her personal and professional career. I have seen her manage her career, obtain multiple degrees, and love our children while simultaneously creating the space and room to support me in my professional and personal endeavors. My marriage, life with children, and career advancement would not be possible without her leadership, guidance, accountability, feedback, and support.
