Broward College graphic design students recently won several awards during the annual American Advertising Awards Gala, hosted by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), which is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting more than 25,000 entries every year.

In recognition of their creative excellence, BC students won two Gold and Eight silver ADDY Awards and Student Best of Show. Broward College student winners include Gabriel Hakime, Zhaniya Dyussembayeva, Ashley Rodriguez, Trinity Herrera, Stephanie Hopper, Jimena Carbajal, Candis Langpap and Amanda Viso. The students competed against neighboring Florida colleges and universities. Winners will go on to compete at the district level against students from all of Florida and the Caribbean in late April.

In addition to student entries, professionals in the field of advertising enter the competition, providing opportunities for students to meet and network with local creatives. “I am beyond proud of our students. While I know the quality of work that is produced in our program, it is great for them to receiving outside validation boosts their confidence as they make their way toward entering the industry,” said Adriana Portal, Program Manager and Professor in the Graphic Design program.

The graphic design program has an impressive winning streak, with more than 65 student winners taking home awards for the last five years. In the past, students who have won awards at the district level have moved on to the national level, with one student winning a Silver ADDY, the first national award for a participant from the local AAF chapter.
