Volunteers worked at a build site in Fort Lauderdale and assisted with multiple tasks, including including weatherizing, placing furring strips to create a flat surface for drywall, and installing metal hat channels for ceiling support.

The project was one of many community service opportunities coordinated by BC Cares, which was launched by the College in 2017 to foster a culture of service and community engagement among its faculty, staff and their families. Over the past seven years, the initiative has resulted in over 950 members contributing more than 22,600 hours to various community service activities, according to Elaina Moran, Director, Institutional Events at Broward College, who oversees BC Cares.

For that project, BC employees and their families helped make 600 children's holiday cards for Voices, which provides programs solely for child victims of abuse, neglect and abandonment by working to make the foster care experience better for all children.

BC Cares projects are open to Broward College employees and their families. For more information, please contact bccommunityrelations@broward.edu.
