FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Broward College’s 66-year history is rich with important moments, and the latest will be on Sept. 5 with the investiture of Torey Alston as the College’s eighth president and chief executive officer.

The ceremony, which will cap off a week of events for students, faculty and staff, takes place Sept. 5 at Bailey Hall on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie.

An investiture ceremony is an academic tradition dating back to the Middle Ages that celebrates the formal installation of a new leader. It typically occurs during a new President’s first year in office and provides them with an opportunity to introduce their vision for the institution. It’s also a celebration of learning that brings together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other members of the local community.

The processional, which has participants wearing the academic regalia that marks their education levels, is probably the most visible aspect of an investiture. This investiture will both honor Broward College’s legacy and start a new chapter with a vision to become the number one destination for academic excellence.
