FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The first week of September is going to be busy as Broward College celebrates two milestones: Our 66th anniversary and the investiture of Torey Alston as the eighth president and chief executive officer.

The celebrations kick off Tuesday, Sept. 2 with the Institute of Public Safety’s Change of Command Ceremony at the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie. As part of the ceremony, President Alston will present a new American flag that will be flown during his tenure. The ceremony will be followed by an offsite Community and Alumni Fellowship Breakfast.

The festivities continue Wednesday, Sept. 3 as President Alston joins students at a birthday-themed event to celebrate the College’s 66th anniversary! Expect an event featuring treats and a chance to join fellow Seahawks in sharing campus spirit. Celebrations will take place at each campus:

  • North Campus - 10 - 11 a.m., Bldg. 46/Breezeway
  • Central Campus - 12:15 - 1:15 p.m.,
Bldg. 19 – Patio
  • Judson A. Samuels South Campus - 2- 3 p.m., Southern Breezeway

Next up, on Thursday, Sept. 4, President Alston will host a special appreciation event to recognize the dedication and contributions of the College’s faculty and staff.

The week wraps up Friday, Sept. 5 with the main event: President Alston’s investiture ceremony. The ceremony will take place from 1 – 3 p.m. at Bailey Hall on Central Campus. During the ceremony, President Alston will outline his vision for Broward College as the number one destination for academic excellence. Due to space limitations in Bailey Hall, the College will be hosting watch parties (with refreshments) at each campus:
