DAVIE, Fla. - The Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery at Broward College is pleased to present Ascension, a solo exhibition by San Francisco-based artist Holly Wong, curated by Bridgette Mayer, Director and Owner of Bridgette Mayer Gallery. An opening reception from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, February 19 and an artist lecture at 5 p.m. will be held. Light refreshments will be served, and the event is free and open to the public. We hope you can join us to celebrate the artists and their work and to enjoy some delicious food and drink. The exhibition will run through Saturday, April 4, 2026.

The Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery is located on Broward College’s A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 3501 SW Davie Rd., Davie, Fl., Building 6. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public.

Ascension is the direct translation of Wong’s artistic journey, the title reflects the process of regeneration and renewal, while the work presents the transformation of trauma into transcendence. Wong builds a representation of that journey for us to follow along through collaged paintings, mixed media, drawings, and immersive super installations, offering her viewers amulets for healing in a painful world. Ascension is Wong's most personal and ebullient exhibition to date, incorporating all her learning and her desire to forge connection. She states:

"An amulet is a spiritual object of protection that you carry with you. I created these works in the exhibition as amulets for healing and sanctuary both for myself and for the larger world context of conflict and pain. My art making is a magical process that reveals the sacred in myself."

The exhibition features a comprehensive selection of Wong's recent work: eight collaged drawings on panel; eight collaged paintings on shaped aluminum; the suspended drawing installation Phoenix; the heat-molded acrylic installation Hydra; and five fiber installations from the Nereid series. The Lilith and Psyche series reflect the more contemplative qualities of Wong's approach, integrating her interests in meditation and Eastern philosophies. Phoenix is an expression of her desire for purification, cleansing and rebirth. The black and white patterned installation serves as a powerful symbol of rising from destruction. Hydra serves as a proxy for Wong's own undefeatable spirit which cannot be suppressed. Consistent with the overall theme of resilience, the scale and ambition of the work exist to fully engage visitors. The Nereids represent the nourishing forces that transform bare survival into beauty, the essence of Wong's philosophy of "radical repair." All the pieces found deeper meaning in the colors, material, pattern chosen, each one deserves a deeper look into it as we try to understand such a personal and ebullient exhibition.
