Broward College Names 2025-2026 Professors and Adjunct Professors of the Year

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward College has named 12 exceptional faculty members as Professors of the Year and Adjunct Professors of the Year for the 2025-2026 academic year.
“These exceptional faculty members are putting into action our shared vision of Broward College becoming the #1 destination for academic excellence,” said President and CEO Torey Alston. “It’s important to recognize their efforts and the positive impacts they have on their students every day.”
The annual recognition celebrates full-time and adjunct faculty members who demonstrate excellence in teaching, foster student engagement and innovation, and contribute to the academic life of the College. Faculty are nominated by students and colleagues, and awardees are selected through a rigorous review and interview process led by the Professor of the Year Committee.
“These 12 faculty members are being celebrated, not just for what they teach, but for how they teach it,” said Dr. Jamonica Rolle, Interim Provost and Senior Vice President. “Academic Excellence at Broward College is lived out every day in their classrooms, and our students are better for it.”
The 2025-2026 awardees by campus are:
A. HUGH ADAMS CENTRAL CAMPUS
Professor of the Year: Noel Hernandez
Noel Hernandez is an Assistant Professor of History. He is also a musician, photographer, and Ph.D. candidate at Florida International University, where he researches the intersections of Latin identity and the U.S. music industry in the first half of the 20th century. He approaches his teaching as he approaches life— through an emphasis on culture "as a reflection" of the human experience. Outside of the classroom, he is also committed to mentoring students on their future academic pursuits, professionalization, writing, and historical projects at the College.
Professor of the Year: Dr. Shiv K. Sharma
Dr. Shiv K. Sharma is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry, teaching Chemistry and laboratory courses in online and in-person formats. He is committed to student-centered teaching and incorporates innovative approaches, including research-based learning and Learning Assistant (LA) models, to enhance student engagement and success. He earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Miami, specializing in surface chemistry and spectroscopic studies of enzymatic systems. At Broward College, he leads an undergraduate research lab, mentoring students in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication. His research focuses on nanomaterials, particularly carbon dot nanoparticles and their applications in biosensing, catalysis, and environmental systems. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Tatsiana Barrow
Tatsiana Barrow doesn’t just teach English—she helps students find their voice. Originally from Belarus, she began learning English at age 7and built a life around it, from Minsk to New York to South Florida. That journey shapes everything she does in her English for Academic Purposes (EAP) classes , where she teaches multilingual students to communicate with confidence in academic and real-world settings. Her classroom blends language, technology, and real-life practice. Students might use virtual reality to rehearse presentations, AI tools like NotebookLM to break down complex grammar, or step into the Maker Space to connect language with hands-on innovation. She also incorporates mindfulness and breathwork, helping students build focus, confidence, and presence in communication.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Katrika Sterling
Professor Katrika Sterling is the bestselling author of Motivate Yourself to Impress and the creator of the innovative Motivated Speech Bot. She completed her A.A. at Miami Dade College and went on to earn her B.A. and M.A. in Communication—with honors—from Florida Atlantic University. She is currently advancing her scholarship through Capella University's Educational Leadership programs. At Broward College, her discipline—Speech—plays a vital role in strengthening graduation and transfer rates. Through motivation, communication excellence, and critical thinking, she prepares students to thrive academically and professionally. She embraces the motto, “affordable path to success.” Professor Sterling also teaches in the Second Chance Pell Initiative at Everglades Correctional Facility, where education becomes a form of restoration and hope.
Professor of the Year: Dr. Caroline Webb
Dr. Caroline Webb is an Associate Professor of English for Academic Purposes . She has taught English language skills for more than 18 years in further and higher education in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Italy. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies with a specialization in linguistics and composition and rhetoric from Florida Atlantic University and a master’s in TESOL from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom. Her most recent presentations and research have focused on the effects of linguicism on multilingual speakers of English in higher education.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Winsome Mundy
Winsome Mundy is a Statistics, Mathematics, and Computer Science Adjunct Professor with cross-disciplinary integrative facilitation skills who brings technical and business experience to the classroom. Recognized as a “best in classroom” faculty who can deliver mathematics, statistics, and computer science concepts to students using real-world examples for optimal learning, she infuses passion, motivation, and professional experience into teaching. She transitions students with math anxiety to a more relaxed frame of mind–with some of those students even ending up liking the subject at the end of the course. She is a faculty mentor who has served on accreditation and curriculum development committees.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Dr. Michelle Weiss
Dr. Michelle Weiss is an experienced American Sign Language (ASL) educator with more than two decades of teaching at the college level. Since 2002, she has been dedicated to advancing ASL education, and she has been a valued professor at Broward College since 2021. She has taught a wide range of learners, from pre-kindergarten students to graduate-level classes, demonstrating a deep commitment to inclusive and accessible education. Known for her dynamic teaching style, she creates and facilitates fun, interactive lessons designed to enhance classroom engagement, and support student success in mastering ASL.
JUDSON A. SAMUELS SOUTH CAMPUS
Professor of the Year: Dr. Katherine Peach
Dr. Katherine “Kate” Peach is an Associate Professor of Biology at the Judson A. Samuels South Campus, where she has taught since 2016. She is dedicated to creating learning experiences that make science approachable, engaging, and relevant to students’ lives. Through creative instruction, hands-on learning, and real-world applications, Dr. Peach encourages students to think critically, remain curious, and develop confidence in their scientific understanding. In addition to her teaching, she has been actively involved in student mentorship and leadership development. Since joining Broward College, she has served as a faculty advisor to student organizations, first with the STEM/Science Club and currently with the Green Team, where she supports student leadership initiatives and promotes environmental sustainability on campus.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Connie Terry
Connie Terry holds an M.Sc. in International Development Studies and an M.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). She has worked at Broward College since 2024, bringing with her a diverse international teaching background. Professor Terry began her career teaching in Southeast Asia, as well as in Central and Southeastern Europe, experiences that fostered her deep appreciation for working in multicultural environments. She believes the E EAP classroom is a uniquely dynamic space in which students and faculty engage in meaningful exchanges of ideas. Through these interactions, participants not only strengthen academic language skills but also expand their understanding of, and respect for, diverse cultures and ways of life.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Yane Nemeroff
Yane Nemeroff has more than10 years of experience teaching at the college level and more than 13 years of experience working in education overall. His expertise centers on deconstructing communication to reconstruct effective communicators. Through this approach, he unpacks the complexities of communication to help students understand why we communicate the way we do and how to harness the power of communication to maximize personal and professional potential. He is fluent in four languages--English, French, Spanish, and Haitian Creole and has more than 10 years of experience in public speaking, delivering high-quality speeches in all four languages across a variety of contexts and formats. He is also the founder and organizer of Reroute, Return, and Redemption: The Non-Traditional Approach to College, a speaking event now in its eighth year. The event provides college students from diverse backgrounds with the opportunity to hear inspiring success stories from non-traditional students, highlighting the challenges they overcome to achieve academic success and thrive beyond college.
Professor of the Year: Michele Marshall
Michele Marshall is a Professor and Program Manager in the Business Pathway, where she has served since 2008. With a M.Ed. in Business Education from Bloomsburg University and a B.S. in Finance from Penn State University, she specializes in developing online curricula that bridge the gap between academic learning and professional workforce demands. Her teaching philosophy, "Cultivating the Digital Professional," focuses on equipping students with both technical proficiency in industry-standard software systems and essential interpersonal "soft skills" such as emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and reliability. She holds numerous professional credentials, including ACUE certifications in Effective College Instruction and AI for Higher Education, and is a Quality Matters (QM) affiliated professional.
Adjunct Professor of the Year: Christina Dailey
Christina Dailey has been teaching for more than 20 years across high school and college classrooms. She holds a master’s degree in Psychology and Social Science education. Most of her career has been spent teaching online, where she focuses on creating a learning environment that is not just organized and intentional, but genuinely engaging for students. She teaches psychology in a way that helps students connect course concepts to their own lives, making the material meaningful and practical. As an online educator, she has built strong relationships with her students by being present and responsive, so they feel supported and inspired to succeed. Outside of the classroom, she is a proud mother of two girls who enjoys reading, training for half marathons, and volunteering with a boxer rescue.
