FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Healthcare workers are in high demand in South Florida, and a major investment in Broward College by Sunshine Health will help in filling that need.

On March 26, Sunshine Health Vice President of Operations Dovile Usaite joined Broward College President and CEO Torey Alston and the Broward College Foundation Board of Directors to present a $100,000 check and its recent foundation board meeting.

Since 2022, Sunshine Health has invested $100,000 to the College annually, which helped 380 students gain industry-recognized credentials in programs such as Patient Care Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, EKG Technician, Medical Administrative Assistant, Electronic Health Records, and Basic Life Support certification.

“Sunshine Health has been a true partner by sharing classroom space and professional expertise that enriches the learning experience for our students,” Alston said. “This support helps us in fulfilling our vision of being the #1 destination for academic excellence.”

Sunshine Health’s investment has provided approximately $270,000 in tuition assistance and nearly $130,000 in equipment and instructional resources, helping remove financial barriers while ensuring that students train with tools that reflect real-world healthcare environments.

“We’re grateful for our partnership with Broward College and the work they do to create opportunities for Floridians and fill gaps in high-demand healthcare fields,” said Heather Urquides, Chief Marketing and Engagement Officer at Sunshine Health. “Together, by investing in people, we’re building a stronger healthcare workforce and driving meaningful impact in public health.”

Headquartered in Broward County, Sunshine Health is one of the largest healthcare plans in Florida and serves millions of members.
