As the new academic year approaches, more than 1,300 new Seahawks attended Broward College's First Flight events across all three campuses over the past week.

First Flight is a longstanding tradition that helps ease first-time college students in the transition from high school. This year's events drew 500 students at the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 450 at North Campus and 350 at the Judson A. Samuels South Campus.

Across the three days of the event, students could explore their interests and learn about any of the College's academic programs, as well as services that are available like the Academic Success Centers.

Staff from the Tigertail Lake Recreational Center led icebreaker games that helped students get to know each other and create a sense of belonging in a cohort.

"The feedback was tremendous," said Dr. Jennifer Kross, Dean of Student Services at South Campus. "Students were laughing, joking and engaging with each other, and with faculty and staff. So many said they had a wonderful time."

Food, music, dancing, and photo booths were all part of the fun, too, and all participating students received a Broward College T-shirt.

"It's an opportunity to begin a new chapter in their lives," Kross said.
