COCONUT CREEK, Fla. - The OMNI at North Campus was once again filled with new and returning faculty on Aug. 19 as part of Broward College’s annual Faculty Welcome Back breakfast.

The event offers an opportunity for faculty members to create or renew connections with their colleagues, learn about different College departments in a marketplace, and hear important updates directly from senior leadership.

Dr. John Wensveen, who joined the College in June as Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs, addressed the assembled faculty for the first time.

“As we begin the 2026–2027 academic year, I want to express my gratitude for your energy, your dedication, and your unwavering commitment to Broward College,” Wensveen said. “Today, we have much to celebrate, significant milestones to review, and an exciting vision to discuss as we shape our path forward together.”

Wensveen shared an academic update that covered multiple topics, including the ongoing multiyear process to attain new institutional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission. He also highlighted this year’s honorees for Professors of the Year, Endowed Teaching Chairs, and Continuing Contract Awards.

Other topics and speakers included:

  • Dr. Billy Jones on the continued rollout of the new myBC Student Information System.
  • Voices of Access, a discussion on accessibility issues featuring Acting Vice Provost for Academic Services & Learning Resources Priscilla Suarez, Dr. David Perdian, and Assistant Professor Eileen Santiago.
  • A UFF-BC chapter update from the chapter president, Dr. Daniel Rieger.
