FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Broward College is opening career pathways in healthcare for 90 low-income students through a $275,000 investment by the Lennar Foundation.

The investment will fund scholarships and support services to 90 students enrolled in the College’s Certified Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Clinical Medical Assistant, and Emergency Medical Technician programs in 2027. The Lennar Foundation, an arm of homebuilder Lennar Corporation, partners with organizations on the three pillars of community, education, and health.

"This support is going to students seeking high demand careers," said Terry Mularkey, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and CEO of the Broward College Foundation.

The initiative addresses regional shortages of entry-level healthcare workers and financial barriers that prevent many residents from accessing training, while offering academic support, success coaching, and employment services in partnership with HANDY, Inc., a Broward-based nonprofit that supports youth empowerment and opportunity.

The project aims to achieve an 85% job placement rate for program completers by connecting them with healthcare employers, including Broward Health, Memorial Healthcare, and other regional providers. It will also develop a long-term sustainability strategy by making the programs eligible for the new Workforce Pell Grants that rolled out this year to support students in short-term workforce training programs.
