DAVIE, Fla. - Broward College is partnering with Fort Lauderdale United FC to improve soccer facilities for students and local youth.

The professional soccer club will invest an estimated $350,000 in capital improvements to athletic facilities at the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie, for the benefit of students and children in Fort Lauderdale United’s youth programs. The upgrades will include re-grassing the baseball field at the northwest corner of the campus to allow it to be converted for soccer use. Portable restroom facilities will also be placed next to the baseball field.

Fort Lauderdale United previously invested in the renovation of a football field at nearby Nova Southeastern University to transform it into the Amerant Bank Field, where the club’s professional women’s soccer team plays. The field will also host the new men’s team when it debuts in 2027.

"Soccer has a bright future in Broward County, and Broward College is excited to help grow the sport locally through this partnership," said Terry Mularkey, Vice President, Institutional Advancement and CEO, Broward College Foundation.

The renovation of the Central Campus baseball field connects to the College’s efforts to increase intramural sports offerings for its students. Current intramural offerings across all three campuses include sports such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, flag football, and futsal.

Work on the field has started, with updated irrigation and other repairs estimated for completion by the end of October, and new sod being laid in early November.

Tommy Smith, Founder and Chairman of Fort Lauderdale United FC, sees the partnership as mutually beneficial.

"It's going to revitalize this great space and integrate the Broward College club and intramural sports and our youth programming, and other tournament events in the community," Smith said. "It's bringing visibility to Broward College that ultimately will end up benefitting students and the organization."
