Broward College Receives Endowed Scholarship Funds

The Florida College System Foundation Helps Make Education Obtainable

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (SEPTEMBER 16, 2013) – In a special check presentation ceremony held earlier today, Broward College was awarded scholarship funds from the Florida College System Foundation. Broward College received nearly $70,000 of the $905,000 that the Florida College System Foundation has awarded to the 28 college system institutions.

"The Florida College System Foundation’s endowed scholarships help make a difference in the lives of thousands of students across the state," said Dr. Thomas E. Furlong, Jr., chairman of the College System Foundation Board of Directors.

Broward College received the following scholarships:

  • Nursing and Allied Health scholarships - $19,539 from Florida Blue
  • First-Generation scholarship - $45,127 from Helios Education Foundation
  • Bank of America scholarship - $4,160

"We are proud to be selected as one of the recipients of these meaningful scholarships," said Nancy Botero, Broward College vice president for advancement and executive director of the Broward College Foundation. "It reinforces our mission to transform lives through education by providing community awareness, advocacy and financial resources to Broward College."

These scholarships will alleviate potentially costly loans for students. They also ultimately assist in meeting the workforce needs in Florida without burdening the students with future loan payments.
