Broward College to Hold Free Day-Long Event to Raise Awareness on Human Trafficking

In recognition of National Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month, Broward College, in partnership with Free the Slaves, will host a day-long conference titled “Human Trafficking: Exposing the Crisis, Devising Strategies and Solutions,” on Thursday, January 30, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Broward College’s Bailey Hall, 3501 S.W. Davie Road, Davie. The event, which is free and open to the public, will bring awareness to the magnitude of human trafficking in Florida, the United States and around the world, while promoting discussion on effective responses and encouraging participants to join the movement to end modern slavery.

The event will include panel discussions led by representatives from Congress, the Florida Legislature, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Kristi House, Coca-Cola, as well as others from state and national organizations. Topics will examine how law enforcement and multinational businesses can help eradicate slavery in the U.S., Caribbean and Latin America. Scheduled discussions include “State and Local Enforcement Issues, Including Sex Trafficking,” from 10 to 11:30 a.m.; “Human Trafficking in Latin America and the Caribbean,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m.; and, “The Role of Multinational Businesses,” 2:45 to 4:15 p.m.
