Broward College's A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, 3501 S.W. Davie Road, Davie, will present a series of lectures titled "We are All Time Travelers", which will focus on the theory of time travel and challenge participants to think critically about the topic. The lectures are free and open to the public, and include:
Sacred Time: Dancing with the Stars
Tuesday, January 28, at 12:30 p.m.
Building 17, Room 425
"Sacred Time: Dancing with the Stars" will explore what happens when an orchestration of movements, sounds, sights, smells and feelings take an individual back in time. The lecture will focus on the manner in which religion approaches time as a sacred concept, and how people time-travel using music and dance to connect (from the earth below) with the divine (with the stars above). Speakers include Lulrick Balzora, associate dean of social sciences and professor of religion, Susan Barnett, director of the Buehler Planetarium, and Viviana Arboleda, dance instructor.
Time and Place: Every Space is a Place
Tuesday, February 18, at 2 p.m.
Building 17, Room 425
"Time and Place: Every Space is a Place" will question what happens when being spatially present at a particular place takes individuals back in time. The lecture will focus on the manner in which certain locations affect one's sense of self, time and space. Speakers include Alon Parker, professor of geography, Pedro Oliveira, professor of philosophy, and Nora Ayala, professor of ethics.
Time Travel: Savoring the Past
Wednesday, March 26, at 2 p.m.
Building 17, Room 425
"Time Travel: Savoring the Past" will discuss the recreation of history by savoring present moments in time. The lecture will focus on how the manner in which individuals savor the present leaves them with elements that can be used to reconstruct historical events in the future. Speakers include R. Hernandez-Muzquiz, professor of history, Joshua Kimber, professor of philosophy, and Roy Pocknee, dean of academic affairs.
Round Table: Student Presentations
Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m.
Building 17, Room 419
To conclude the lecture series, Broward College students will participate in a symposium to present their ideas on time travel and engage with the audience in a thought-provoking discussion about the topic. For more information, call 954-201-6630.
