New Broward College Southwest Center Takes Shape in Miramar

Presidents photoBroward College and Florida International University hosted a special dedication on February 25, 2014 to commemorate the construction of the Broward College-FIU Broward Center in Miramar, an 89,000-square-foot structure, at 1930 S.W. 145th Avenue, Miramar. Highlights of the event included opening remarks by Broward College’s South Campus President Sean Madison, and a signing ceremony with Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr., and Florida International President Mark B. Rosenberg.

“Broward College has seen consistent growth in the Miramar area, and this new innovative mixed-used facility will address the need to provide affordable and advanced training to the community that we serve,” said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. “We are excited to partner with Florida International University, and look forward to working together to offer quality education and workforce training to help students succeed.”

Slated to open this fall, the building will be LEED-certified, and will feature classrooms, science labs, meeting spaces and student commons. The student common area and dining facilities on the first floor will be shared by both institutions.

Broward College’s offerings will focus on business, supply chain management, and global trade and logistics. A number of credit-for-prior learning options will also be available, as well as credit by examination.

FIU’s offerings are similar to the current offering at the Pines Center, which will move to Miramar at the end of the summer: undergraduate programs in liberal arts, business and construction management and graduate programs in business, engineering, education and public administration. Certification/non-degree programs, test preparation and languages also will be available.
