Broward College Foundation Announces $1 Million Donation to Support Broward College’s Nursing and Health Sciences Programs

Fort Lauderdale, FL. March 25, 2014 Broward College District Board of Trustees Chairman Sean C. Guerin announced that The Krause Family Foundation has donated $1 million to support nursing and health sciences programs at Broward College. Kathryn and Roy Krause are local philanthropists who support educational and youth advocacy organizations.

“Kathryn and I both feel we’ve been very blessed with our careers and our family,” Mr. Krause explained. “When I retired, we decided to start a family foundation … our family is creating a gift to Broward College to honor Kathryn’s career as a nurse practitioner. We are very excited about the College’s new Health Sciences Simulation Center and all the great things that are happening in the nursing area.”

“The Krause family’s gift will have an astounding impact on students, health professionals and healthcare delivery in our community,” said Debbie Papa, Ph.D., dean of health sciences at Broward College.  “Our nursing and health sciences programs are the top in the state, so we must give our students a state-of-the-art learning environment.  With the right preparation, tomorrow’s health professionals will be more confident going into the real world. The Krause’s donation is so incredibly generous.  It directly supports everything we are doing. It is truly wonderful.”

In gratitude for this gift, Broward College will name the entrance on the first floor of the Health Sciences Simulation Center the “Kathryn Krause Lobby” and The Krause Family Foundation will be recognized on the center’s donor appreciation wall.

The Krause family’s donation will support:

  • The Kathryn Krause Scholarship for Nurses
  • The Kathryn Krause Lecture Series
  • Krause Family Medical Simulation Mannequins
  • The Kathryn Krause Book Award for HANDY Students

“We sincerely appreciate the support and generosity of the Krause family, and we know this gift will be a tremendous asset to the nursing program, our students and the community,” said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. “Thanks to this gift, which is a tribute to Kathryn’s successful career, Broward College will be able to provide scholarships to our students, innovative tools needed to enhance their training, as well as educational and engaging programs for the public.”
