Broward College Appoints DeSanctis as New Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment

marielena desanctisMarielena DeSanctis, Ph.D., was recently appointed vice president for student affairs and enrollment at Broward College. She has district-wide responsibility for student financial services; student records/college registrar, student admissions, including international students; student development and campus life; athletics; and college publications. In this role, DeSanctis will also set policies and the strategic direction for the overall vision of student affairs and enrollment management.

"Broward College is a progressive institution, and I am truly excited to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the services we offer to our students", said DeSanctis. "I also look forward to establishing partnerships to strategically position Broward College nationally and globally." DeSanctis served as a math and science classroom teacher, assistant principal at South Plantation High School, and then principal at Fort Lauderdale High. While there, she led the oldest high school in Broward County to nationally acclaimed levels of student achievement while significantly increasing enrollment, and providing greater opportunities for minority and economically disadvantaged students. The school district then brought DeSanctis into the district offices as the executive director for curriculum, instruction and interventions. There, she implemented a number of important initiatives, including Common Core, STEM initiatives and technical programs. Additionally, DeSanctis served as president of the Florida Association of School Administrators, and volunteered on various national education committees for the Council of Great City Schools and the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

A native of Florida, DeSanctis has a doctoral degree in educational leadership and administration from Florida Atlantic University, a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Nova Southeastern University, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
