Broward College Honors Alumni with Annual Hall of Distinction Awards

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (September 26, 2014) – Broward College recently recognized the achievements of its most outstanding alumni at its third annual Alumni Hall of Distinction Awards held at the Renaissance Plantation Hotel. To be considered for an award, each nominee must have given back to the community by making professional, civic, public or philanthropic contributions.

Joining other nationally prominent past inductees, such as award-winning writer Rita Mae Brown and former Governor of Maryland Parris Glendening, were City of Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Franklin Adderley (Merit Award), President of the Medical Staff at Jackson Health System Joshua Lenchus (Merit Award), President of International Yacht Collection Robert Saxon (Merit Award), owner of American Social Bar & Restaurant Rick Mijares (Emerging Leader Award), Director of Victim Advocate Unit at the State Attorney’s Office Nancy Tanner (Service to the Community Award), and Associate Professor of Education at Broward College Sharry Kimmel, Ph.D. (Alumni Service Award). The event was hosted by Broward College alumna Catalina M. Avalos, who currently serves as a director of the law firm Tripp Scott. 

“We are so proud of our alumni for the contributions they make to the community and look forward to this event every year,” said Nancy Botero, Broward College’s vice president for advancement and executive director of the Broward College Foundation. “We congratulate our nominees, finalists and honorees, and applaud all of the judges for their hard work.”
