FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 21, 2014) – Students from Broward College will explore political issues from a new perspective in an academic showcase titled, “Getting Politically Creative.” This event will feature a mock debate, and examination of poetry and politics. The event, which is open to the public, will take place on Wednesday, October 22, on Broward College’s North Campus, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd., Coconut Creek, Building 46, Room 152.
From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., students from Broward College Professor Jason Vinson’s Introduction to Poetry class will explore how poetry can be used as an expression of political thought. From the examples of great works of past and present, to the launch of new voices expressing their thoughts on the politics of the moment, they will explore the intersection of poetry and politics.
Following this, at 1 p.m., students from Broward College Professor Ricky Ascher’s business class will participate in a public debate where students will represent the candidates for Florida governor. This mock debate will specifically focus on the economic agenda of each candidate.
