Broward College Students to Participate in Mock Shadow Debate the Evening before Gubernatorial Debate

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 2, 2014) –The evening before the gubernatorial debate, students from Broward College’s speech and debate team will have the opportunity to argue the important issues facing Florida this election season. They will be joining together with television production classes to produce a live mock debate on Tuesday, October 14 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., at the College’s Central Campus, 3501 Davie Road, Davie, Building 17, Room 145. The shadow debate will also be streamed online and updated on Twitter with #BCMockDebate14.

This event, which is free and open to the public, will be presented in a team format, with two groups representing the candidates for governor. Manny Munoz, co-host and executive producer of “South Florida’s First News with Jimmy Cefalo” on News Radio 610 WIOD will moderate the debate and direct questions from the studio and online audiences.

The shadow debate is a major joint venture between the online campuses and Central Campus,” said Greg Barnes, communications professor, head of the speech and debate team, as well as organizer of this mock debate. “It is also a great learning experience for both those behind and in front of the cameras.”
