Broward College Helps Veterans Retool for the Workforce
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (Dec. 3, 2014) – Broward College is offering an accelerated technical certificate program designed to help veterans retool their service experience for work in high-tech manufacturing. Operation Retool, a part of the Advanced Manufacturing program, is open to all veterans and active-duty service members, and offers an accelerated engineering technology support specialist certificate that can be completed in three months.
“Operation Retool was a great way to earn 18 college credits, a technical certificate and the nationally recognized MSSC Certified Production Technician and OSHA 30 – General Industry credentials while utilizing my VA education benefits,” said Clinton Adderly, an Army veteran and Broward College Operation Retool 2014 graduate. “The Florida TRADE team also provided me with resume and job placement assistance, which helped me find employment upon graduation.”
The 18-credit Operation Retool program is being offered in conjunction with the Florida TRADE grant, which was awarded to a group of 12 state colleges to develop and deliver technical training programs that would lead to high-demand careers in the manufacturing industry. Applications are currently being accepted for the program, which will begin on March 9, 2015 at Broward College’s North Campus.
“Through the Operation Retool program and the Florida TRADE grant, Broward College can offer manufacturing training to veterans, allowing them to gain nationally recognized industry certifications, complete a college credit certificate program that leads to a degree in engineering technology, and receive job placement assistance in the high-demand manufacturing and engineering technology profession in an accelerated fashion,” said Avis Proctor, campus president of Broward College’s North Campus. “We are committed to providing veterans accessible educational opportunities that lead to completion of industry recognized credentials and tangible employment outcomes. We are excited to offer this program with classes starting in March.”
