Women's History Month 2015

Throughout March, Broward College will celebrate Women’s History Month with several events on its campuses. All events are free and open to the public.

Vadis Turner: Contemporary Feminist Textiles

Acclaimed fiber artist Vadis Turner speaks about synthesizing the practice of painting with repurposed textiles to create unconventional works that engage gender roles and handicrafts in a contemporary context. Learn about her process, inspirations and the arc of her work which has been exhibited across the U.S. and abroad in esteemed institutions, including the Brooklyn Museum, Bass Art Museum and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Shattering the Glass, Part 2

This discussion will bring together several dynamic women from South Florida, including Ebonni Bryant, founder and CEO of The Idea Inc.; Julia Dawson, former president of the Miami chapter of the National Organization for Women; Sheila Jones, district director of the Robert “Bob” Elmore Honors College at Broward College; Nehemie Michaud, Broward College student; Ania Rodriguez, CEO of Key Lime Interactive and a 2014 South Florida Business Journal 40 under 40 Honoree; and Calibe Thompson, television personality, author and producer of “The Caribbean Diaspora Weekly.” The panel will address what it takes for young women to overcome various obstacles as they venture to shatter the glass ceiling. These women tell their story of how they got to their current role, discussing both the obstacles and triumphs. This year, panelists will include the Broward College Foundation’s Director of Partnerships, Events and Communications Ellice Martinez and Broward College Assistant Professor of Business Administration Jeanne Christ. An Overview of Human and Labor Trafficking: Stopping the Exploitation of Women

Entrepreneur Workshop and Panel
