Broward College Faculty and Board of Trustees Ratify Contract

Fort Lauderdale, FL (Wednesday, April 4, 2016) –Today at 3 p.m., upon the recommendation of President J. David Armstrong, Jr. and Executive Director of Human Resources Dr. Denese Edsall, the Broward College Board of Trustees convened in a special meeting to review and formally sanction a new contract with its faculty, represented by the United Faculty of Florida (UFF).  The agreement was ratified by Broward College faculty during a vote held earlier this week.

"This is a moment which deserves to be punctuated with an exclamation mark, and I commend our faculty and staff for rising above their differences to do what is in the best interest of our students," said Board of Trustees Chair John A. Benz.

The new contract includes several revisions including evaluation cycles and criteria, wages, healthcare options, rewards outstanding faculty, and improves the academic experience while helping Broward College remain an affordable option. Continuing contracts will remain an incentive for faculty, but will include revisions such as evaluation cycles and criteria.

"After months of negotiations, we are happy to have arrived at a resolution which is in the best interest our students and our taxpayers," said President J. David Armstrong, Jr. "I commend our faculty on their professionalism throughout this process, and their unwavering dedication to our students. Now we can turn our attention to the result of their hard work and celebrate our graduates at our 84th Commencement next Tuesday."
