The Broward College South Campus Office of Cultural Affairs Announces 2016-2017 Programming

BSOCA to host art exhibits, theater performances, poetry showcases and more from September, 2016 through May, 2017

Pembroke Pines, FL (Aug. 3, 2016) – The Broward College South Campus Office of Cultural Affairs (BSOCA) will launch its third season of art exhibits and artistic presentations at the Performing and Cultural Arts Theatre (PCAT) and the South Campus Art Gallery. Falling under the theme, “Politics of the Personal,” events will run until May 2017 and are scheduled for the third week of each month. Topics will be tied to timely national observances including Hispanic Heritage, Black History, the National Elections, and Women’s Month. BSOCA strives to provide year-round cultural programming that extends beyond the classroom, engaging students, faculty, and the general public on provocative, contemporary issues confronting our community. 

Faculty from different departments assisted with the selection of the acts which represent the many faces of South Florida and its cultural heritage. Their work will delve into the relationship between the self, “the other,” and the political life. The series also compliments the College curricula across multiple disciplines while welcoming the community into the conversation with local leaders, students, artists, and activists.

This season’s programming is made possible through the support of a grant from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, which serves as the co-producer of the Overhead Series. Since 2014, the BSOCA series has sought out established and emerging local and national talent to perform one-man acts exploring social issues.

Admission to the Performing Cultural Arts Theatre is free for Broward College students and staff. Tickets are $10 for the general public and are available an hour before each performance. “Week of the Arts” events, including gallery openings, are free and open to the public.
