Bailey Hall Film Series Continues with Comedic Road Trip “Donald Cried”

The film’s star will engage in a Q&A session following the screening on Thursday, October 6

Davie, Fla. (September 16, 2016) – Bailey Hall presents Donald Cried as part of the South Arts Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers on Thursday, October 6 at 7:30 p.m. Following the screening, lead actor, executive producer and writer (story concept) Jesse Wakeman will engage the audience in a discussion about the film and his work.

Donald Cried follows main character Peter Latang (portrayed by Wakeman) who left his working-class Rhode Island upbringing to reinvent himself as a slick, Wall Street mover and shaker. Fifteen years later, when he is forced to return home to bury his grandmother, he loses his wallet on the trip. Stranded, the only person he can think of to help him is his next-door neighbor and former childhood friend Donald Treebeck (Kris Avedisian), who hasn't changed a bit, and what starts as a simple favor turns into a long van ride into their past. Past and present collide as this road trip comedy blends hilarious and painful moments shared between the two characters.

“With funding help from a kickstarter campaign, Donald Cried premiered this year at the SXSW Festival and it demonstrates the fresh kind of American movie making that is being done today free from studio constraints,” said Dr. Dan Barnard, associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall.

Wakeman is an actor, filmmaker and visual artist based in New York and received his MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University in 2014. He is also a founding member of the New York-based theater company WedRepCo.
The Austin Chronicle reviewed the film reporting it, "Melds offbeat humor, cringeworthy pathos, and naked human emotion into a lunatic mélange of genuine indie filmmaking.”

The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers is a program of South Arts. Southern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Bailey Hall film series continues with NUTS! (Nov. 10), Shake ‘Em on Down (Feb. 16), Some Beasts (March 30) and Hunky Dory (April 20).
