Broward College Campus Safety Days Promotes Security

Davie, Fla (September 28, 2016) – With security concerns on the rise across the nation, Broward College wanted to assuage student fears and educate the campus communities on its safety and security measures by hosting the annual Campus Safety Days. These free community fairs were held each Wednesday in September, rotating between the three main campuses and the Miramar Center.
In recognition of National Campus Safety Awareness Month, the Broward College Department of Safety, Security, and Emergency Preparedness worked in partnership with Student Life and local law enforcement agencies to spread awareness for safety practices and strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the community. Over forty agencies hosted booths featuring interactive displays, demonstrations on special weapons and tactics (SWAT) trucks, drunk driving simulations, and much more.

“Campus Safety Days develop an interactive avenue for members of the community to come out and learn, firsthand, the methods and opportunities that exist to ensure they remain safe,” said Jaeson Weber, coordinator for safety, security, and emergency preparedness. “These fairs showcase the resources that are available to residents. It also creates an environment where safety services and the community interact with each other building stronger, more cohesive relationships.”
