The Delray String Quartet Will Perform at Bailey Hall

Davie, FL (September 22, 2016) –  Hailed as a “World-Class String Quartet” by The Palm Beach Post, the Delray String Quartet will perform at Bailey Hall on Saturday, October 8th at 7:30 p.m.

The program will feature Beethoven’s “String Quartet in F Major, op. 14, no. 1” and Walter Piston’s “String Quartet
no. 1,” before the Delray String Quartet is joined by special guest Dr. Catherine Lan on piano to perform César Franck’s “Piano Quintet in F Minor.”

“One of our region’s cultural gems, the Delray String Quartet, will be joined by Dr. Lan for an outstanding evening of chamber music,” said Dr. Dan Barnard, associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall.

Marking its 13th year, the Delray String Quartet explores a variety of genres and time periods, including some of the latest quartets. Its recording of Kenneth Fuchs’s “Quartet No. 5” for the Naxos American Classics label was released in 2013 to excellent reviews and, also for Naxos, it recently recorded the late string quartets of Grammy Award-winning American composer Richard Danielpour.

Delray String Quartet first violinist Mei Mei Luo has recorded chamber and orchestral music on the Klavier and Harmonia Mundi labels and currently holds positions with FAU Chamber Soloists, Palm Beach Chamber Music Festival, Miami Chamber Symphony and Florida Grand Opera. Second violinist Valentin Mansurov won first prize winner in the 14th National String Competition, held among the most prestigious musical institutions in the former U.S.S.R. Previously a member of the San Francisco Symphony, violist Richard Fleischman has received numerous honors, notably the Windsor Prize, personally awarded to him by Leonard Bernstein, and the Edward Steuermann Memorial Prize, the highest award granted by The Juilliard School. Cellist Claudio Jaffe has performed in some of the most prestigious concert halls around the world, including the Weill Recital Hall, Town Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.

A member of the Broward College faculty, Lan has performed abroad in Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Canada, Mexico and France and will make her debut in the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Slovenia next year.

The Bailey Hall Chamber Series continues with Piazzolla: A Tango Nuevo with Tomas Cotik and Tao Lin (November 12), Cabaret in Paris (March 2), A Musical Journey (March 19) and Four-Hand Piano Works with Gustavo Romero and Massimo Somenzi (April 27).
