Bailey Hall Chamber Series Presents Piazzolla. Tomas Cotik and Tao Lin perform works by Piazzolla, Schubert and Mozart

Davie, FL (October 24, 2016) – Recognized for their recordings of Piazzolla, Schubert and Mozart, the duo of Argentinian violinist Tomas Cotik and Chinese concert pianist Tao Lin will perform a program of those composers’ works in Piazzolla: A Tango Nuevo as the third installment of the Bailey Hall Chamber Series on Saturday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The program features “La Muerte del Angel,” “Oblivion,” “Histoire de Tango,” and “Escualo,” by Piazzolla, the Argentinian composer best known for creating the style of nuevo tango which combined a fusion of jazz and classical music.

The program also includes Franz Schubert’s “Rondo Brillant in B minor, D. 895” and Mozart’s “Sonata for Piano and Violin in Bb major, K. 454.”

Cotik and Lin formed their duo in 2010 and their much-lauded Piazzolla CD is available on the Naxos label.  The two Miami residents have recorded the complete music for piano and violin by Franz Schubert for Centaur Records and have embarked on all 17 Sonatas for piano and violin by Mozart for that label.

“Tomas Cotik and Tao Lin are two of the most engaging chamber musicians of our time,” said Dr. Dan Barnard, associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall. “Their spirited performances keep the vibrancy of Piazzolla alive and thriving.”

Cotik was the First Prize Winner of the National Broadcast Music Competition in Argentina and the winner of the Government of Canada Award. He has performed with several internationally prominent conductors, such as Michael Tilson Thomas, Valery Gergiev, Roberto Abbado, Yakov Kreizberg, Marin Alsop, Stephan Deneve, Roger Norrington and Robert Spano, at such famed venues as Carnegie Hall.

Lin has given recitals at the Kennedy Center, National Gallery, 92nd Street Y, Rockefeller University, Chautauqua Institute, Minnesota Orchestra Hall, Izumi Hall in Osaka, Japan and Norway’s Edvard Grieg Museum.  He was
a prize-winner at the Palm Beach International Invitational Competition, the International Piano e-Competition, the William Kapell International Piano Competition and the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition.

The Bailey Hall Chamber Series continues with Cabaret in Paris (March 2), A Musical Journey (March 19) and Four-Hand Piano Works with Gustavo Romero and Massimo Somenzi (April 27).
