Broward College Launches New CNC Advanced Certificate Program

COCONUT CREEK, Fla (October 18, 2016) –Beginning today, Broward College will offer a new Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Advanced Certificate program at its North Campus in Coconut Creek, FL. The CNC Certificate will make it possible for students seeking to enter a field where IT meets manufacturing.

“The program is ideal for someone looking to dive into the ever-expanding world of manufacturing, or professionals already in machining and want to advance their career and increase earning potential by attaining certifications,” said Erin Greskovich, CNC project coordinator. “Now is the perfect time to join this industry.”

The curriculum is a six-week blended classroom format, where class time is predominantly dedicated to hands-on experience using state-of-the-art equipment. Students have the opportunity to earn Broward College credit while securing industry certifications for programs such as NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills) and MSSC (Manufacturing Skills Standards Council).

Computer Numerical Control Advanced Certificate Courses

• PMT1203C- Introduction to Machining
• PMT2213C- Advanced Machining (Requires PMT1203C)
• PMT2214C- Advanced Machining 2 (Requires PMT1203C and PMT2213C)
• EDI0998- Machine Helper

Coursework is aimed at providing students with proficiency in Tooling U-SME and Immerse2Learn software packages, computer side control panel systems, desktop mills and lathes. Additional certifications embedded in the program include measurement, materials and safety, CNC milling, CNC lathe and certified production technician. Students who plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering a better will receive a better understanding of the programming involved to direct an automated CNC machine.

Demand is high for applicants with these certifications and training, especially in South Florida. According to labor research data pulled for South Florida, a multiple machine tool setter with a CNC certificate and 0-2 years of experience can expect to earn up to $42,889, and a numerical control programmer with an associate’s degree and 1-3 years of experience can expect to earn up to $51,563.

Funding for the program was made possible through JP Morgan Chase Grant Foundation. Outside of Broward College, the closest institution to offer this area of study is in Lake Worth, FL.
