Through funding from the Florida Legislature, Broward College, in partnership with the MLK Day of Service Advisory Board, has allocated funds to 36 different community organizations to develop and complete service projects on January 16, 2017 for MLK Day of Service. MLK Day of Service encourages the public to take part in a day of volunteerism to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The 2017 service projects will focus on support for veterans, neighborhood improvement projects, health promotion, environmental initiatives, education, economic opportunity, and more. The public is now invited to participate in one of these volunteer projects by registering on the Broward College website. Deadline to register is Wednesday, January 4.

The recent works of full-time faculty within the Broward College Visual Arts department will be on display through February 22, many of whom are nationally recognized artists. The exhibition will feature various media and disciplines, such as painting, drawing, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, photography, video and installation. The artists include Teresa Diehl, John Foster, Jan Johnson, John Kaufman, Jim Lansing, Catherine Leisek, Lisa Rockford, John Selburg and Leo Stitsky. "Text" will feature the works of John Chang, Robert Ladislas Derr, Tatana Kellner and Barbara Oettinger Searle, and will be on display through January 18. The artists use text, both legible and obscured, to create images that vary widely, visually and conceptually. The event is free and open to the public. Exploring the Red Planet with NASA Engineer Kobie Boykins

Kobie Boykins is a mechanical engineer at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., who worked on projects from Pathfinder and Mars Exploration Rovers to Ocean Surface Topography Mission for more than ten years. Currently, Boykins is supervisor of the mobility and remote sensing mast teams for Curiosity, the Mars Science Laboratory. His presentation will include dozens of breath-taking images of Mars, as well as personal reflections on the importance of success and failure in the process of scientific exploration.

Navarro is a well-known Republican strategist and a political analyst for CNN and CNN en Español. Broward College Graduation
Broward College leadership, faculty and staff recognized the achievements of its new class of graduates during the 85th Commencement Ceremony from the Greater Fort Lauderdale, Broward County Convention Center. Students who have completed their associate degree, bachelor’s degree or a certificate program were honored. President J. David Armstrong, Jr. conferred 192 bachelor’s degrees, 2,444 associate degrees and 639 technical certificates. 24 Future Teachers Receive Offers at Mock Interview
The Broward College Teacher Education Program (TEP) hosted a mock interview opportunity for fall graduates at the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie. In all, 38 participated with representatives from Broward County Public Schools representatives interviewing the applicants. More than 24 received official offers and eight received multiple offers.
