Bailey Hall presents Montana Repertory Theatre’s production of Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park on Tuesday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m.
Davie, FL (March 10, 2017) – His second solo Broadway show, Barefoot in the Park was nominated for a Tony Award as “Best Play” and established Simon’s reputation as a comedy master. Called "a bubbling, rib-tickling comedy" by The New York Times, the romantic comedy focuses on a pair of newlyweds adjusting to life after a six-day honeymoon. Straight-laced lawyer Paul and free-spirited Corie must contend with a lack of heat, a skylight that leaks snow, an oddball neighbor in the attic and several long flights of stairs in their tiny walk-up apartment, but when her well-meaning mother arrives for a surprise visit everything starts to go haywire.
Director Greg Johnson writes in his director’s note, “Montana Repertory Theatre takes pride in producing plays from the great American canon––stories that reveal the American character and hold a mirror to our mutual longings, dreams, defeats, and victories. Over the years we have presented four plays by America’s master of comedy, Neil Simon. Through comedy, Mr. Simon explores love, relationship, marriage, and family––the pangs of loss and the joy of reunion.”
“Barefoot in the Park has enjoyed two runs on Broadway and was a hit movie because its comedy is universal and timeless,” said Dr. Dan Barnard, associate dean of cultural affairs and director of Bailey Hall.
Celebrating its 50th anniversary season, Montana Repertory Theatre assembles principle actors, directors, and designers whose credits include productions on and off-Broadway as well as national tours of Broadway shows and major regional theaters.
