Ted Koppel Shared Media and Journalistic Insights at Broward College Speaker Series

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (March 1, 2017) – The 2017 Broward College Speaker Series, in partnership with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, hosted the second of three distinguished speakers on Wednesday, February 22nd featuring Ted Koppel, award-winning journalist, former anchor and managing editor of ABC’s “Nightline.” The evening was sponsored by Stearns Weaver Miller.
The former anchor shared his thoughts on current news events, the media landscape and his journalism background as the longest-serving news anchor in U.S. broadcast history. Following his talk, Koppel participated in a Q&A moderated by Calvin Hughes, Emmy-award winning newscaster for WPLG, and answered a variety of questions submitted by audience members on issues ranging from the political and economic climate in the Middle East to how younger generations can be educated on how they receive the news.
Earlier in the day, Mr.Koppel also visited the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus for a Fireside Chat with Broward College students. During the intimate gathering he spoke to approximately 50 students about how he got started in broadcast journalism. He also offered advice to students who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism.
The remaining speaker for the Broward College Speaker Series is Angela Duckworth, TED Talk phenomenon and New York Times best-selling author of “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance” on Wednesday, April 5.
