“I and I: The Politics of Self-Love”

Rastafarians refer to themselves as “I and I,” which speaks to their connection with God and the “other.” Inspired by the song i, by Kendrick Lamar, the core of “I and I: The Politics of Self-Love” focuses on self-acceptance and love of self as a revolutionary act through portraits of influential figures. “F Politics: Feminism and Political Activism” Opening Reception

Tracing the history of the Feminist movement and its involvement with many social and political causes, this exhibit delves into the impact feminist leaders have had in community organization and political transformation. “Letters to the Black Woman”

Conceived by professor Rudy Jean-Bart as a collaborative piece with local musicians, poets, dancers and audiovisual artists, “Letters to the Black Woman” is a multi-disciplinary homage to the many struggles black women face in contemporary America. Presented during Women’s History Month, the show features work from not only Jean-Bart, but historical facts and footage, accompanied by an all-female band and interpretive dance. Broward College is hosting the “Celebrating Women in Art” exhibit featuring the work of the Fort Lauderdale Branch of the National League of American Pen Women. The exhibit showcases the talent of local artists with various mediums on display including photography, watercolor, acrylics, oils, mixed media and sculpture. The event will give participants the opportunity to learn about preparing a resume, interviewing skills, dressing for success and college preparation. Broward College Now Licensed to Produce Its First-Ever TEDx Event
Broward College has recently been licensed by TED Talk to produce its first ever TEDx event, “Evolution.”  Students, faculty, and community speakers are invited to present compelling, interdisciplinary talks related to the evolution of ideas within art, culture, technology, science and society. Organizers have begun planning for the inaugural TEDxBrowardCollege event in the fall.
