Angela Duckworth Shares Insights on Grit at Broward College Speaker Series

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (April 11, 2017) – On April 5 Broward College, in partnership with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, hosted TED Talk Phenomenon and New York Times bestselling author, Angela Duckworth. The last of three distinguished guests for the 2017 Broward College Speaker Series, Duckworth focused on the topic “True Grit: The Science of Success. Who succeeds in life?” The evening was sponsored by SunTrust Private Wealth Management.

To a sold out Amaturo Theater, Duckworth shared her research on the character qualities that are the strongest predictors of a person’s future success: grit, self-control and perseverance. Following her talk, Duckworth participated in a Q&A, moderated by CBS4-Miami Evening News Anchor Rick Folbaum, and answered a variety of questions submitted by audience members. Questions ranged from tips for encouragement College professors can offer students to find their passions to how individuals can apply corrective feedback and improve their skills. 

Earlier in the day, Duckworth spoke to more than 400 Broward College students and Broward County Public Schools principals and teachers during a fireside chat at the Broward College North Campus. Moderated by Assistant Professor of Philosophy Joshua Kimber, she encouraged students to use the power of perseverance to cultivate their character and succeed with their passion. Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Robert Runcie also was on hand to participate and ask questions during the once-in-a-lifetime event.
