Broward College Ranks Second on New Ranking of 50 Best Community Colleges for 2017

Eugene, OR (April 4, 2017) — Broward College, located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, appears on a new ranking of the 50 Best Community Colleges for 2017. It is ranked 2nd overall.

The ranking was published by College Choice, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources.

Broward is one of the largest community colleges in the nation. In number of associate degrees conferred, it ranks fifth nationally. It is also one of the most diverse community colleges in the country, a major consideration in the College Choice ranking. Diversity, however, isn’t just a question of number of minority students enrolled—it’s also a measure of minority student success. Broward ranks in the top 5 both for degrees awarded to African American students and for degrees awarded to Hispanic students.

“While community college degrees and certifications typically are shorter programs than 4-year colleges, that says nothing about their importance,” Christian Amondson, Managing Editor of College Choice, said of the ranking. “Community colleges are indispensable parts of the educational fabric of this country. And Broward ranks among the very best of them.”

College Choice developed the 2017 ranking for the Best Community Colleges by looking at a combination of institutional academic quality, diversity, and student success. Data for the ranking comes from the Aspen Institute as well as individual college websites.

College Choice is the leading authority in college and university rankings, searches and resources dedicated to helping students and their families find the right college. The site publishes rankings and reviews that make finding the best colleges for different interests easier and more fun, as well as resources to help students get into, pay for, and thrive at the college of their choice.
