Broward College Named to Forbes' 'America's Best Employers 2017' List

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (Thursday, June 8, 2017) – Forbes has ranked Broward College in the top one hundred companies recognized on its “America’s Best Employers 2017” List.

The annual list compiled by Forbes, with statistical input from research partner Statista, seeks to recognize the companies that are “best at making their employees feel happy, inspired, and well-compensated.” The 800 companies ranked in the general “Best Employers” list are divided into two sub-categories: large employers with more than 5,000 employees, and midsize employers with between 1,000 and 5,000 employees. This is the first appearance for Broward College on the prominent ranking.

“We are honored to be on this prestigious list,” said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. “Broward College is one of the best places to work in South Florida because our staff, faculty, and adjuncts have a true passion and enthusiasm for the success of our students. They are the ones who are the curators of our vibrant culture and our students’ success.”

The list was compiled after Statista surveyed 30,000 employees anonymously through online platforms. Respondents were asked to provide their opinion, using a scale from one to 10, on questions relating to various work factors including their inclination to recommend their company to others.

“We strive to create an environment for our students, faculty and staff that is welcoming, creative, and comfortable,” said Dr. Denese Edsall, executive director of human resources and equity. “We place great value on the happiness of our employees. We implement fun wellness programs, offer opportunities for professional development and advancement, and advocate for work-life balance because we know their contentment leads to a better learning environment for our students.”

In addition to Broward College, nine Florida-based companies appear on the list including JM Family Enterprises, Inc. (#10), Ultimate Software Group (#30), Nova Southeastern University (#133), and Palm Beach County School District (#153), respectively. There are only two additional colleges on the list: Boston College in Mass. and Maricopa County Community College in Az.
