The next generation of nurses will be celebrated with a symbolic candlelight ceremony done in the spirit of Florence Nightingale, who would take her oil lamp late at night to care for the sick during the Crimean War. The “Lady with the Lamp” served as a beacon of hope and whose legacy lives on as an iconic figure within the field. For more information, email cmohamme@broward.edu.

The Potters’ Guild Invitational is an accumulation of ceramic works by one of the most excellent groups of clay artists in South Florida. The artists of the Broward College Potters’ Guild share a studio space, as well as creative ideas and techniques, and this relationship results in fantastic clay works, both functional and sculptural. This year’s show is juried by Chad Steve, resident artist at the Armory Art Center. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For more information, visit www.browardvpa.com/gallery.

The event will include a panel discussion on the perceived barriers in public contracting and how organizations work to overcome perceptions and a Business Exchange where small business owners can market their goods and services directly with local and state buyers at scheduled one-on-one interviews. Broward College and Broward County Public Schools Launch New Program Retraining Paraprofessionals as
Teachers
Broward College has partnered with Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) for the launch of the Para-to-Teacher program. This innovative program will provide an opportunity for education paraprofessionals already working in high-need or underserved schools to earn a bachelor's degree through the Broward College Teacher Education Program (TEP). The collaboration will help alleviate ongoing shortages in critical areas such as Exceptional Student Education (ESE), mathematics, and science by increasing the availability of highly-qualified teachers. Participants will be required to complete field experience and student teaching in their current schools with the goal of becoming certified educators. For more information, read here.
