Fort Lauderdale, Fl. (July 10, 2017) – Nguyet Minh Tran, a Broward College Vietnam International Center student, has been selected as the 2017 Broward College Presidential Scholarship winner. Tran was chosen for her academic achievements, contribution to college life, and commitment to community and charitable endeavors.

Tran is currently completing her Associate of Science in Business Administration at the Center. Once received, she will travel to Florida to pursue her Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management with the dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Her journey will begin during the Spring 2018 term.

"Broward College boasts outstanding students across the globe. We are thrilled to honor Nguyet as the recipient of this year’s prestigious scholarship,” said Broward College President J. David Armstrong, Jr. “We look forward to welcoming her to South Florida next January and making her feel at home within the diverse multicultural community we have on our campuses.”

A resident of Kien Giang City, Vietnam,Tran chose to study at the Broward College Vietnam International Center because of the practical applications embedded within its programs, its dedicated professors, and the opportunity to continue her education in the U.S. She currently boasts a 3.85 GPA and is involved with Toastmasters club, PFC Painting Charity Club, the Charity Program of Saigon Tourist Company, and Guitar and Ukulele Saigon club.

Launched in 2014, the Broward College Presidential Scholarship provides up to $30,000 to deserving students with plans to continue their education in the states. The award covers all tuitions fees over a two-year period. Past recipients include Nghia Gia Hoang Tan Dinh (2015) and Hoang Thien Lam (2016).

“I am excited to support this young person in her academic pursuits,” said Dr. David Moore, dean of international education. “Because of the unique relationship between Broward College and our Vietnam International Center, Nguyet does not need to transfer her credits – they’re already Broward College credits. Centers such as the one in Vietnam provide students across the world with access to an American education and the endless possibilities that come with it.”

In 2008, Broward College opened the Vietnam International Center in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by offering English language preparation and associate degrees in business and hospitality management. The Center now offers an Associate of Science in Business Administration and an Associate of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management. It follows a strict adherence to the standards set out by the College, with all course content and local faculty members approved by the Greene International Education Institute in Florida. Students who study at the Center are accepted into Broward College with the option to continue their education at one of its main campuses in Florida.
