Broward College Announces Two New Student Deans; District Director of Accessibility Resources

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (August 22, 2017) – Broward College is pleased to announce it has selected two new student deans and a district director of accessibility resources: John Murphy will serve as the North Campus Dean of Students, William Soto will serve as the Judson A. Samuels South Campus Dean of Students, and Craig Levins will assume the role of District Director of Accessibility Resources.

As dean of students John Murphy and William Soto will be responsible for ensuring students efficiently complete all requirements for admission and enrollment, appropriately advised and supported along their educational journey at BC, and seamlessly transfer to a Bachelor's program or successfully enter the workforce.

John Murphy most recently served as intern principal for Coral Springs High School and boasts 21 years of experience at Broward County Public Schools. He has a long-standing reputation of providing support for student achievement, the professional development and supervision of faculty in a variety of academic departments, and the management of school budgets, facilities, and partnerships. Murphy earned his bachelor's degree in Business Economics from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey and his master's degree in Guidance and Mental Health Counseling from Florida's Barry University. He also has earned an Educational Leadership Certificate from Florida Atlantic University and is certified by the State of Florida in Educational Leadership. 

William Soto brings 15 years of experience from Miami-Dade College to his position with Broward College Student Services. Most recently, Soto served as department chairperson of the Miami-Dade College World Languages Department. He also has served as the Director for Admissions, Registration, and Financial Aid at Miami-Dade College. Soto earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and his master's degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Florida's Nova Southeastern University. He currently is pursuing his doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Florida International University.

In his role as District Director of Accessibility Resources Craig Levins will be responsible for ensuring equal and access for students with disabilities that is consistent with legal requirements, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and Broward College policy. Levins brings more than 20 years of experience in accessibility resources with the State University of New York (SUNY) in Albany, New York. While at SUNY, he served in multiple roles including director of accessibility resources, director of student accessibility resources, coordinator of student accessibility resources, and coordinator of services for students with disabilities. Previously, he served as the director of program services for Community Living Associates, in Albany, New York.

Levins earned his bachelor's in Psychology from Elmira College in Elmira, New York; his master's in Counseling Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, New Hampshire; and holds a certificate of Advanced Professional Development in Assistive Technology Applications from California State University in Los Angeles, California.
